As a safety precaution, we urge you to arrange the first meeting with your partner during the daytime at a public place in which you are already familiar with (coffee shop, restaurant, park, etc.).
We recommend that you meet with your conversation exchange partner at least once a week for at least one hour each time, speaking half of the time in Spanish and the other half in English.
Remember that these are neither Spanish classes nor English classes. You are meeting locals who have as much desire to learn about you, your culture and language as you have to learn theirs. Ideally there should be sharing and learning from both participants.
The success of the conversation exchange program clearly rests on both parties willingness to commit their time and energy to the program. We hope you will make the effort to make all language partner appointments. Though the vast majority of the program participants are “successful”, this is not always the case. GIC Argentina cannot guarantee the success of the program, but we will find you a new partner should yours be less than reliable.
