1. Is there an age limit to participate in this semester study abroad program in Argentina?
You have to be at least 18 years of age in order to participate in our semester study abroad program.
2. Is this Argentina study abroad program only for American (USA) college students?
No, our semester study abroad programs (and junior year abroad programs) are open to international students from all countries. Though studying abroad is very popular with students from North America, the university has large international student population from countries all around the world.
3. Is there a minimum GPA requirement to participate in the university study abroad programs in Buenos Aires (or in other cities in Argentina)?
No.
4. Is it mandatory to take the intensive Spanish preparatory courses before starting my semster program in Buenos Aires?
No, it is not mandatory to take the intensive Spanish classes. However, unless you are fully fluent, we recommend that you take at least a 1-month Spanish prep course before starting your semester or junior year abroad program in order to get more comfortable with the Spanish language.
5. What do I have to do in order to receive academic credit for my semester study abroad (or junior year abroad) program in Buenos Aires (or other cities in Argentina)?
You must make arrangements with your home institution to transfer credits. We recommend that you talk to your Study Abroad Advisor at your home institution before applying to GIC Argentina. Our courses are held at a large and well-known university and it is highly likely that your university will give you course credit for our programs.
6. How much credit can I receive for this semester program abroad in Argentina?
The amount of credit you can earn for this semester program abroad depends on the policies of your home institution. Most courses are worth 3 to 5 semester units. Of course, you have to pass all the courses you take (you will be required to obtain a 'C' or better grade in each course in order to receive the credit).
7. Is there a minimum number of courses I have to take during my semester abroad or junior year abroad program in Argentina?
International students are required to take at least 4 courses in each semester in order to be considered a full time student.
8. Is there a maximum number of courses I can take in a semester at the university in Buenos Aires?
No, there is no maximum. However taking more than four classes per semester in Argentina can be difficult.
9. Do the study abroad semester courses offered have a prerequisite?
Most of the university courses offered in our semester programs in Argentina do not have prerequisites.
10. Are the courses offered classified as "lower division courses" or "upper division courses"?
University courses in Argentina are not clasified as "lower and upper division". It is up to the policies of your home university if they will grant you academic credit for this courses as lower and upper division courses. Please, consult with your department dean or your study abroad advisor.
11. Can I register for the semester study abroad program in Argentina and find my own accommodations?
Yes, you can register for our semester programs and find your own housing. If this is your situation, please contact us and we will give you a quote for the program without housing.
12. When will I know if I have been accepted into the semester program?
After registering, paying the application fee, and submitting the required documents (essay, letters of recommendation), you will be informed whether you have been accepted within approximately a week.
13. How much do I have to pay in advance in order to be accepted into this semester abroad program?
For studying abroad in Buenos Aires (and other cities in Argentina), only the application fee must be paid in order to be accepted. Of course other documents (essay, letters or recommendation) must also be submitted prior to an acceptance decision.

15. How long after submitting all the required documents will I know if I have been awarded a scholarship to study in Argentina?
All scholarship notifications are typically sent out at least one month before the study abroad program start date.
16. When is the final program payment due?
For study abroad programs in Buenos Aires, payment can be made in advance by credit card or bank wire, or if preferred upon arrival (but prior to the first day of classes or first night in acommodations, whichever is first). For study abroad programs in Argentina outside of Buenos Aires, a 50% payment of the program price is required at least 30 days before arrival.

18. Do you arrange excursions on the weekends as part of the study abroad programs?
Yes!! We arrange optional trips to many parts of Argentina - however any costs are not included in the program price. Your program does include cultural activities such as walking tours around Buenos Aires, theaters, museums, conversation partner and welcome parties, etc. For more information, please visit Weekend Trips.
19. Will I meet anyone if I go alone to study in Argentina?
Yes! Most of our participants travel independently and are looking to meet other people with an interest in learning in another country, possibly learning a new language, and discovering another culture. Not only will you meet other study abroad program participants, but you will meet other international students from around the world, and Argintineans at the university, in your home stay or student residence, and in your travels.
20. Is airfare included in the price of the Argentina study abroad programs?
Your flights to and from Argentina are not included in the study abroad program price. When you have made your flight arrangements to Argentina, let us know so we may arrange your airport pickup.
21. Is medical insurance or trip cancellation insurance included in the program price?
No, insurance is not included. We strongly encourage students to get travel and health insurance. GIC Argentina will not be responsible for any costs incurred by the student relating to medical illness, accidents or any reason that will result in the student's early return. Trip cancellation and overseas medical insurance are surprisingly affordable.
22. Is financial aid to study abroad in Argentina available?
Most financial aid can be transferred to your study abroad program. Talk to your financial aid advisor to determine how much financial aid you can expect to transfer to your study abroad program. Your federal financial aid is generally transferable to your Argentina study abroad program. Your home institution makes the final decision in regard to your aid package and policies change from university to university. Call your home university study abroad advisor if you run into problems transferring your financial aid.
