Universidad AustralUniversidad F. A. Santo Tomas de Aquino (FASTA) in Bariloche is a private university founded in 1958. Universidad FASTA is member of an international council linking 18 universities throughout Latin America and Spain.

Universidad FASTA is located in the beautiful city of San Carlos de Bariloche, best described as the Aspen or Vail of Argentina and is the outdoor and adventure sports capital of Argentina. Universidad FASTA is the only university offering Spanish language courses and semester abroad programs in Argentinean Patagonia.

Academic Credit: Spanish Classes in Buenos Aires

GIC Argentina Spanish School Buenos AiresLearn Spanish in Bariloche and receive academic credit. Most people studying Spanish in Argentina earn 3 – 4 semester units for each 4-week Spanish course completed. At the end of the program you will receive a certificate stating the name of the course, level, number of hours and your final grade. If you are in a college or university and would like to receive academic credit at your home institution, talk to your study abroad advisor and arrange this ahead of time in order to make sure you’ll receive credit for your time learning Spanish in Buenos Aires.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the minimum age to attend this Spanish program in Bariloche/Patagonia? We normally ask that students be 18 years of age or over. Students under this age must have a written authorization from their legal guardians. We also have a High School exchange program for participants under age 18.

2. Is this San Carlos de Bariloche Spanish program only for college students? No, our Spanish programs are not only for college students. We have students of all ages and ou do not need to be a college student to participate in any of our programs.

3. What is the average age of GIC Argentina students? We have students of a varied range of ages, however, on average they are between 20 and 29 years old.

4. What level of language skill do I have to have to study at Universidad FASTA? None, don’t worry about that! Our Spanish classes are for complete beginners to advanced levels.

5. How long can I go to learn Spanish in Patagonia? We have Spanish programs available having a duration of from four weeks to an entire semester or year. Multi-month programs less than a semester in length are also possible. Please let us know the preferred length of your program and we can likely accommodate your needs.

6. When do the Bariloche Spanish courses begin? Most of our courses start the first week of every month at all levels. Check out the start date of each program or contact us for more information.

7. What will be my Spanish class schedule in Patagonia? Spanish classes in Bariloche/Patagonia begin at 9 am.

8. Do I have to take a Spanish placement test at the Bariloche school? Yes, on the first day of classes, you will take a Spanish level test to place you in the appropriate course level. After placement, your teachers will give you more detailed information about the course contents and learning materials.

9. How can I enroll in the GIC Argentina program in Patagonia? It is very easy. Simply fill out the application form online.

10. Can I combine the Spanish program in Bariloche/Patagonia with a Spanish program in another location? Yes, you can combine any programs that you like. Keep in mind that the shortest program in Bariloche/Patagonia is one month. If you wish to combine two programs, please, let us know ahead of time.

11. Do I receive a certificate at the end of the Patagonia Spanish program? Yes, GICArg will give you a certificate of participation in our program and the university will give you an assistance certificate that you can use to obtain academic credit from your college or university.

12. How much course credit can I earn with this Spanish programs in Bariloche/Patagonia? The amount of credit you can earn in the Spanish program depends on the policies of your home institution. Of course, you have to pass all the courses you take (you will be required to obtain a ‘C’ or better grade in each course in order to receive the credit).

13. How can I transfer college credits? You must make arrangements with your home institution to transfer credits. We recommend that you talk to your Study Abroad Advisor at your home institution before applying to GIC Argentina. Our courses are held at a large and well-known university and it is highly likely that your university will give you course credit for our programs.

14. Do you arrange excursions on the weekend? Yes!! We can arrange optional trips to many parts of Argentina – however any costs are not included in the program price. Your program does include cultural activities such as walking tours around Bariloche/Patagonia, theaters, museums, etc. For more information, please visit Weekend Trips.

15. Will I meet anyone if I go alone? Yes! Most of our participants travel independently and are looking to meet other people with an interest in learning a language and discovering another culture. Not only will you meet other program participants, but you will meet locals as well, at the school, in your home stay and in your travels.

17. Is airport pick-up included in the price of the Spanish program? Yes :)

18. Is airfare included in the price of the Bariloche Spanish program? Your flights to and from Argentina are not included in the program price. When you have made your flight arrangements, let us know so we may arrange your airport pickup.

19. Is medical insurance included in the price of the Patagonia Spanish course? No, it is not included. We strongly encourage students to get travel and health insurance. GIC Argentina will not be responsible for any cost incurred by the student relating to medical illness, accidents or any reason that will result in the student early return.

20. Is financial aid to learn Spanish in Patagonia available? Most financial aid can be transferred to your study abroad program. Talk to your financial aid advisor to determine how much financial aid you can expect to take on your program. Your federal financial aid should be transferable to your study abroad program. Your home institution makes the final decision in regard to your aid package and policies change from university to university.
