GIC Argentina Spanish School MendozaUniversidad de Mendoza (UBA) is the largest and most prestigious University in Argentina and ranked among the first three in Latin America. GIC Argentina works in partnership with the UBA University Center For Foreign Languages. The UBA University Center For Foreign Languages was born more than a decade ago to fulfill student needs regarding foreign language learning, shortly after and as the result of a university extension project the language programs were made available to the community at large. The UBA University Center For Foreign Languages is the biggest language school in Mendoza and Latin America.

Academic Credit

GIC Argentina Spanish School MendozaLearn Spanish in Mendoza and receive academic credit. Most people studying Spanish in Argentina earn 3 – 4 semester units for each 4-week Spanish course completed. At the end of the program you will receive a certificate stating the name of the course, level, number of hours and your final grade. If you are in a college or university and would like to receive academic credit at your home institution, talk to your study abroad advisor and arrange this ahead of time in order to make sure you’ll receive credit for your time learning Spanish in Mendoza.

1. What is the minimum age required to learn Spanish in Mendoza?

We normally ask that students be 18 years of age or over to enroll in any GIC Argentina Spanish school program. Students under this age must have a written authorization from their legal guardians to apply for an exception. We also offer a High School exchange program for participants under age 18.

2. Is this Universidad de Mendoza Spanish school program only for college students?

No! GIC Argentina Spanish programs are for people of all ages. Half of GIC Argentina Learn-Spanish participants are finished with their undergraduate studies.

3. What is the average age of GIC Argentina students who study Spanish in Mendoza, Argentina?

We have students of a varied range of ages. However, on average students are between 20 and 29 years old.

4. What level of language skill do I need to have to learn Spanish at the University of Mendoza?

None! Don’t worry about that! Our Spanish classes in Argentina are for beginners to advanced speakers.

5. How long can I go to learn Spanish in Argentina?

We have Spanish courses in Mendoza that have a duration from two weeks to an entire semester. Though there are Spanish schools in Argentina that offer programs on a weekly basis, longer immersion programs are the best way to learn Spanish in Argentina quickly. Multi-month programs less than a semester in length are also popular (and recommended for really improving your Spanish). Please let us know the preferred length of your program and we can likely accommodate your needs.

6. When do the Spanish courses in Mendoza begin?

7. What will be my Spanish class schedule at the Universidad de Mendoza Language school?

Spanish classes in Mendoza at the University of Mendoza Spanish school start at 1:00 pm. The class schedule is subject to change depending upon the month and number of students registered.

8. Do I have to take a Spanish placement test prior to learning Spanish in Argentina?

Yes, on the first day of your Spanish classes in Mendoza at UBA, you will take a Spanish level test to place you in the appropriate university Spanish course level. After placement, your teachers will give you more detailed information about the Spanish course contents and learning materials.

9. How can I enroll to learn Spanish in Mendoza?

10. Can I combine the Spanish in Mendoza program with Tango lessons and/or other programs?

Yes! Since your Spanish lessons in Mendoza are in the afternoon you will have free time in the morning and evening for other activities. You can combine Spanish classes with both tango and salsa for example (or other short courses), but you should arrange this in advance to make sure that there are no scheduling conflicts and that there is space available. You can also combine any GIC Argentina Spanish course with a program in another location. Please, contact us if this is your situation.

11. Can I attend the university Spanish language school in Mendoza and attend a university Spanish school in Argentina but in another city outside of Mendoza?

Yes, you can combine any Spanish courses in Argentina that you like. Keep in mind that the shortest Spanish language program in Mendoza is one month. If you wish to combine two Spanish language courses in Argentina, please, let us know ahead of time. Learn Spanish in Argentina in two different cities and you’ll really get to know the country!

12. Do I receive a certificate at the end of my program at the university Spanish language school in Mendoza?

Yes, the Universidad de Mendoza Spanish school will issue a transcript that you can use to obtain academic credit from your college or university. The transcript will contain the courses you took, the total number of hours, and your grade. The transcript will be signed by a university authority. The transcript is not included in the program price.

13. How much course credit can I earn with this Spanish program in Mendoza?

The amount of credit you can earn in the Spanish program depends on the policies of your home institution. Of course, you have to pass all the courses you take (you will be required to obtain a ‘C’ or better in each course in order to receive the credit).

14. How can I transfer college credit from my Spanish course in Mendoza?

You must make arrangements with your home institution to transfer credits. We recommend that you talk to your Study Abroad Advisor at your home institution before applying to GIC Argentina if time permits. Our Spanish language school in Mendoza is part of a large and well-known university and it is highly likely that your university will give you course credit for the time you spent to learn Spanisn in Argentina. We don’t know of any previous program participants who wanted to transfer credit and were not allowed by their home institution.

15. Do you arrange excursions on the weekend?

Yes!! We arrange optional trips to many parts of Argentina – however costs for these excursions are not included in the GIC Argentina Spanish program price. Your program does include cultural activities such as walking tours around Mendoza, theaters, museums, etc. For more information, please visit the Weekend Trips page.

16. Will I meet anyone if I go alone to learn Spanish in Mendoza?

Yes! Most GIC Argentina participants travel independently and are looking to meet other people with an interest in learning a language and discovering another culture. Not only will you meet other program participants learning Spanish in Mendoza, but you will meet locals as well at the university, in your home stay or student residence, and in your travels.

17. Is airfare included in the price of the GIC Argentina Spanish language course?

Your flights to and from Argentina are not included in the Spanish program price. When you have made your flight arrangements, let us know so we may arrange your airport pickup.

18. Is medical insurance included in the price of the Spanish language course in Argentina?

No, it is not included. We strongly encourage GIC Argentina Spanish school students to get travel and health insurance. GIC Argentina will not be responsible for any costs incurred by the student relating to medical illness, accidents or other reason that may result in the student’s early return from Mendoza.

19. Is financial aid available to learn Spanish in Mendoza?

Most financial aid can be transferred to your Spanish language program in Argentina. Talk to your financial aid advisor to determine how much financial aid you can expect to apply towards the University of Mendoza Spanish language schools program price. Your home institution makes the final decision in regard to your aid package, and policies change from university to university. Call your home university study abroad advisor if you run into problems transferring your financial aid.

20. Is the University of Mendoza school closed on national holidays?

Yes. Spanish classes in Mendoza are typically cancelled due to holidays are not rescheduled for another day.

21. What does “Spanish Immersion” in Argentina mean exactly?

“Spanish Immersion” is a way of learning Spanish that involves learning Spanish both in and out of the classroom. Typically a Spanish immersion program in Argentina, in Mendoza or elsewhere, involves learning intensive Spanish at least 3 hours per day in a Spanish school, plus learning spanish at “home” at your student residence, shared apartment or homestay, and, in GIC Argentina’s case, also learning Spanish in regular sessions with your Argentinian conversation partner. Spanish Immersion in Argentina can also include learning Spanish outside your spanish class in a volunteer or internship as well.

22. Can I augment my Spanish lessons in Mendoza with tutoring?

Yes – we have one-on-one tutoring with highly qualified instructors. Taking tutoring in the morning followed by University of Mendoza Spanish lessons at the UBA Spanish school, is a great way to learn faster. Inquire for more details about tutoring and prices.

23. I want to study Spanish in Mendoza, Argentina – but I’m looking for a specialty Spanish program that specializes in medical Spanish (or business Spanish, legal Spanish etc). Is anything like that available?

Specialty Spanish language classes are not available at the University of Mendoza – however GIC Argentina has many ongoing tutoring and group classes including for specialized areas. Inquire for more details.
