Study Abroad Summer 2008 Academic Credit

Most students earn 3 - 4 semester units for each 4-week Spanish course completed and 9 - 12 semester credits for each 3-month Summer program completed. If you are in a college or university and would like to receive academic credit at your home institution, you will have to pass all the Spanish courses, and most institutions require a grade of 'C' or better before granting credit for an overseas course. To our knowledge, 100% of previous program participants that wanted to transfer credit back to their home institution were able to do do. |
| Our Spanish language courses are held at a large and well-known university and it is highly likely that your university will give you course credit for our programs. Talk to your advisor (or study abroad coordinator) and arrange this ahead of time if possible. |

Spanish Language (and English) Conversation Partners

GIC Argentina's Conversation Partner Program is a way to improve your Spanish conversation abilities and make friends too. Upon arrival, if you sign up for this program (at no additional charge) you will be paired with an Argentinean who is learning English (we can typically match ages pretty well if you want that). You will regularly meet at least once a week and alternate between Spanish and English. It is a great way to learn Spanish in Buenos Aires faster and to make new friends in Argentina! (learn more)

 Spanish School in Buenos Aires
There are always many interesting things going on both in and out of your Spanish classes in Buenos Aires. Besides the weekend trips and excursions, GIC Argentina Spanish programs include extra-curricular activities every week, where you will have the chance to get to better know your fellow students (or volunteers or interns) as well as meet other international students and Argentineans. Among the activities are: |
- Party with the Conversation Partners
- Lecture with the Madres de Plaza de Mayo
- Visit to Recoleta, Plaza Francia and Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes
- Visit to La Boca, Caminito and Barracas
- Visit to the Museum of Latin American Art (MALBA) in Buenos Aires
- Visit to the Feria Gaucha de Mataderos (Gaucho Street Fair)
- Visit to the Plaza de Mayo, Casa Rosada and surrounding areas
- Tango Lessons and Tango Show
- Visit to the Parque Tres de Febrero in Palermo, Rosedal and Lagos de Palermo
- Not to mention the optional "off-off-Broadway" (actually off-off-Corrientes), underground and avant-garde theater shows, big name and garage bands, outdoor concerts, open-mic poetry readings, big and lesser known DJ events, and the-in-place-of-the-moment (and out-of-the-way) pubs, clubs and restaurants that our younger coordinators will only too happily show you...Though some of these will involve extra costs - the costs are low (it's what makes living in Argentina so awesome right now - you can do practically everything and it doesn't bust the budget).

Scholarships for Study Abroad and Financial Aid
GIC Argentina awards many international study scholarships each year for our multi-month and summer programs (and semester programs). For more information about application requirements, please check out our Scholarship for Study Abroad page.
Also, did you know that you can use your financial aid to participate in our study abroad in Argentina programs? If you are participating in a GIC Argentina program and it is approved by your home institution for earning credit, you may likely qualify for the same financial aid assistance you are qualified to receive at your home institution. Ask your study abroad advisor or financial aid officer for requirements in order to receive financial aid (grants, scholarships etc) for study abroad. We will provide you with all the required documentation such us acceptance letters, copy of certificates and transcripts, etc.

Summer Internship and Summer Volunteer Programs
In addition to our summer study abroad spanish programs, we also have a popular international summer internship abroad program and a popular summer volunteer abroad program. The GIC Argentina international summer internship program requires a commitment of at least two months from almost all employers. The summer volunteer program in South America option requires a minimum commitment of two weeks (though a one month commitment is required for some volunteer work positions - and most volunteeers would agree that typically a month is needed to get the most our of the experience). If you are interested in a summer intern abroad program, there are a large number of fields in which you can gain work experience - see our internship abroad program page for more details. If you are interested in a summer volunteer abroad program, see our volunteer abroad program page for more details. Also, in many cases it is possible to combine a Spanish study abroad summer program with an international summer internship program or with a summer volunteer abroad program - but inquire if there might be a scheduling conflict.
