Information about Bariloche, in Patagonia: Minimize

Bariloche, the Aspen or Vail of Argentina!  Bariloche's Deep blue lakes, towering mountains, glaciers, climbing, boating, exploring, dining and just full relaxing make this an incomparable destination. The scenery alone leaves most people breathless!.

San Carlos de Bariloche, commonly known as Bariloche, is located in Argentina's Patagonia, on the the southern coast of Nahuel Huapi Lake, a 2 hour flight from Buenos Aires.

Summer sports on the various lakes in the region, trekking, climbing, horseback touring, bicycle tours and other warm weather activities draw visitors to the region as much as the winter ski season does.

The city itself embodies a strange juxtaposition: an urban city plopped down in the middle of beautiful wilderness. Bits and pieces of the charming architecture influenced by German, Swiss, and English immigration are still in evidence. Drive 10 minutes outside town, and you'll once again be surrounded by thick forests, rippling lakes, and snowcapped peaks that rival those found in alpine Europe.

Nightlife in Bariloche: Minimize

Bariloche is home to a handful of discos catering to the 20- to 35-year-old crowd. These discos adhere to Buenos Aires nightlife hours, beginning about midnight to 12:30am, with the peak of the evening at about 3 or 4am. The cover charge is usually $3 to $4 per person, and often women enter for free.

 We recommend:

  • Roket (at J.M. de Rosas 424)
  • Cerebro at (J.M. de Rosas 405)
  • Genux
  • Grisu

The Hotel Panamericano runs Bariloche's Casino at Av. San Martín 570, open from 9am to 5am. The Casino hosts live shows every evening. Guests must be over 18 years old; entrance is free. The local cinema can be found at Moreno 39 (tel. 02944/422860).
